History The Abyssinian belongs to the foreign shorthaired group of cats and is one of the world's oldest known breeds, with original cats probably imported from Abyssinia, now Ethiopia. The Abyssinian looks like the paintings and sculptures of Ancient Egyptian cats.
Description The Abyssinian has a sleek tucked coat and strongly resembles a small wild cat. Selective breeding has reduced the natural tabby bars and their coats are soft and silky with a fine texture. The hair should be long enough to show distinctive bands of dark ticking.
The body should be of medium size and length and they are muscular and lithe with a slightly rounded wedge shaped head. Abyssinians come in a variety of colours some of which include : - Tawny, (Ruddy or Usual) - Glowing, warm, rich tawny brown, ticked with Black or Brown.
- Blue - Soft blue, , ticked with deeper blue
- Cinnamon, (Red or Sorrel) - Glowing, warm, rich cinnamon-red, ticked with bright tan brown.
- Fawn - Warm rose beige, ticked with light cocoa brown
- Chocolate - Rich chocolate brown, , ticked with deep chocolate brown
- Lilac - Pale dusty lilac, , ticked with deeper lilac
- Black Silver - Sparkling white, ticked with black
