OCICAT

Originating in the USA in the 1960's the Ocicat was born from breeding a ruddy Abyssinian with a seal point Siamese. Maturing into a large ivory colour cat with golden spots and copper eyes, he resembled an ocelot and was named an Ocicat by the breeder. Breeders then began to develop the breed, which included introducing the American shorthair lines to strengthen the breed. In 1986 the Ocicat became a recognised breed.

The Ocicat is a medium to large breed of cat with a well muscled athletic body. They have a broad square muzzle. Their eyes are large almond shaped and come in all colours except for blue. Their tail is very distinguished being long and slim and tipped with a dark colour at the end. Their coat is short, smooth and very shiny that required only minimal grooming. They come in a variety of colours including tawny, chocolate, cinnamon, blue, fawn and silver. The hairs are ticked agouti and they have rows of amazing spots all over their body. They truly are a striking cat.

As far as temperament it is very similar to it's ancestors the Siamese, Abyssinian and American shorthair. They are a very social cat and love people including strangers. A very family orientated cat that gets along well with other family pets. They don't like being left alone and are intelligent and easy to train.
